Saajan Chale Sasural is another one of David Dhawan’scomedies that stars Govinda, Karishma Kapoor, and Tabbu. Although the first halfof the movie delivers little comedy, the second half makes the movies one of thefunniest comedies ever made by David Dhawan. The one thing that doesn’t deliver(as in other Dhawan comedies, like Coolie No. 1) in this movie is the firsthalf, it bores the audience.
Shamu (Govinda) falls inlove with Pooja (Karishma Kapoor). Shamu tricks her father into teaching himmusic, so that he can get close to Pooja. Pooja finds out that Shamu was justinterested in her and not in music, so she gets angry at him. Shamu finally getsserious about music and Pooja forgives him. After that, Shamu has to come thecity to somehow make money to pay back the sahukar. There he meets his goodfriend, Mutthu Swamy (Satish Kaushik). They both are in search of making moneyvia producing an album. Shamu and Mutthu run into the owner of the Tips musiccompany, Khurana (Kader Khan). From there, Shamu becomes rich. Shamu goes backto the village to repay the debt. Meanwhile, Khurana’s daughter, Divya (Tabbu),falls in love with Shamu. In the village, Shamu learns that Pooja died in aflood. So he marries Divya with the wishes of Khurana. The fun starts whenPooja, actually alive, shows up at a hospital where Khurana and Divya areresiding because of Khurana’s heart problem.
SaajanChale Sasural delivers as another hit of the Govinda-David Dhawan combination. This combination has delivered continuous hits since the Govinda-Chunky Pandystarrer in Aankhen. As usual, Govinda’s acting is excellent, especially in thecomedy scenes. Satish Kaushik has delivered marvelously as Mutthu Swamy. Thecharacter is characterized as well as Kaushik plays the role. Dhawan’s directionis great, although the first part bores at times. Nadeem Sharavan’s musicdoesn’t deliver as well as Anand Milind’s music in Dhawan’s last couple films(Raja Babu and Coolie No. 1). Saajan Chale Sasural doesn’t have any violence.Light comical movies with no violence seem to be the trend of theday.
